Safer Streets

Safer Streets Funding is to tackle neighbourhood crime, violence against women and girls (VAWG) and anti-social behaviour (ASB).

Tackling ASB continues to be Gwent Police’s priority, Cwmbran Centre for Young People is working in partnership with Gwent Police and Torfaen Community Safety, to provide workshops, educational programmes and a safe provision built and designed for young people.

The funding supports qualified youth work officers to develop and deliver a dedicated outreach programme to engaging with young people, developing positive relationships, whilst minimise young people’s engagement with antisocial behaviour. The programme has supported the Centre to provide a variety of activities in a youth focused environment, keeping young people engaged and interested in using the Centre.  The second focus has been developed to undertake outreach-based patrols, allowing members of staff the ability to focus on targeted patrols within the community, diverting young people to access the provision and use the facilities at the centre.
